Life Moments

“Your people will be my people and your God will be my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

Judaism is a joyous, loving, and enlightened religion, combining ancient wisdom and modern reasoning, so it is no surprise that you are interested in joining the Jewish people. It is a wonderful and exciting time in your life. Becoming Jewish is not an easy process, and requires a significant commitment of time, learning, and self-exploration. It can take more than a year to complete the conversion process in some cases.

The Jewish people do not proselytize, and we believe that God has assigned each of the peoples of the world a particular lot, hence why there are so many religions and so many different ways to worship the Creator. However, we are instructed no fewer than 36 times in the Torah to welcome the Convert who chooses Judaism. Converts to Judaism are often referred to as “Jews by Choice.”

Temple Emanuel offers Introduction to Judaism courses for anyone interested in Judaism. If you are interested in conversion or just curious to learn more of what Judaism is all about, we invite you to sign up for this course. If you are in a relationship with someone who is Jewish, this course is a wonderful way to learn about their heritage and an opportunity to draw closer together, whether you end up converting or not.

The first step in your process of conversion is to

contact Rabbi Farb and set up an appointment to get to know the Rabbi and discuss your interest in Judaism.
